What is gelato
Gelato is the Italian word for ice cream, and comes from the Italian word gelare, meaning, "to freeze". Made from just milk and sugar, combined with other flavourings, the beauty of Gelato is that it contains 35% less air, resulting in a dense and luxurious flavour, and more scoops per tub, compared with cheaper ice cream products.

Gelato is typically made with fresh fruit and other ingredients including chocolate and nuts. These are some of the traditional Gelato flavours:
  • Chocolate
  • Bacio (chocolate and hazelnut)
  • Pistacchio
  • Stracciatella (Vanilla with chocolate pieces)
  • Fragola (Strawberry)
  • Limone (Lemon)
  • Fior di latte (Vanilla)
Traditionally, dairy-based Gelato originated in Northern Italy, while Gelato made with water instead of dairy ingredients (also know as Sorbetto) came from the hotter parts of Southern Italy and Sicily.
